In addition, we are immensely proud to have been ranked top electricity retailer in the independently assessed Green Electricity Guide by Greenpeace. Enova has been ranked at the top of the list (where it operates) against over 40 other electricity retailers operating across Australia!

The last time Greenpeace published a Green Electricity Guide was in 2018 and a lot has changed in the electricity marketplace since then. We think this updated 2022 Guide will play an important role in driving uptake in clean renewable energy by making it easier for consumers to tell which electricity companies have strong climate policies and support renewable energy and which do not.

From day one, Enova has focussed on ensuring its ownership, structure, energy sourcing and profit-for-purpose social enterprise model combine to actively address the causes of climate change and to increase climate resilience in our communities.

To have our efforts recognised in this year's Green Electricity Guide is a real testament to Enova's model and approach. Enova gives people the opportunity to take practical and immediate climate action and we’re thrilled our efforts have been so highly ranked in the Green Electricity Guide.

Ownership & Structure

Enova Community Energy is community-owned, with approximately 1,600 individual Australian shareholders. It owns and operates Enova Energy and is 100% Australian.

Social Enterprise

We're a social enterprise and will redirect 50% of profits to our not-for-profit arm for community-owned renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and energy coaching.

Community Energy

Enova is actively building its expertise and knowledge in local distributed renewable energy initiatives and outcomes through its microgrid, solar garden and other decentralised energy projects. It actively shares its knowledge with other communities wishing to establish their own community energy projects.

How the Guide is assessed

The Green Electricity Guide is a fully independent assessment of Australia’s electricity retailers. It is designed as a tool to inform consumers about their options to switch to a greener electricity provider. The highest-rated providers like Enova also empower customers and local communities to take more control over their electricity generation.

There is no bias towards any particular retailer and no funding is received from any providers, corporations or governments.

The criteria against which Enova Energy was assessed to achieve its 5 Star rating are:

Provides clean, renewable energy
ending dirty coal use by 2030
Halting fossil fuel expansion
Support for new renewable energy
Transparency in marketing
Avoiding pollution and environmental harm

Customers and communities are at the heart of everything we do.
As Australia's first community-owned social enterprise we place a strong focus on enabling energy resilience in local communities and regions, as well as our support for renewable energy generation.

Community Energy

With this recognition of our efforts to support resilience within local communities, we feel this is as great a time as any to highlight the importance of community energy and creating a movement that’s decarbonising, decentralising and democratising our energy system.

This vision for decentralised solutions that are owned by communities, means towns and suburbs could operate effectively as mini-power plants, generating, storing and sharing their own energy. As more power is self-generated and stored there is less need to draw on energy supplied from remote power plants via the network’s long-distance transmission and distribution lines.
