Government-funded energy rebates in NSW

A number of government-funded energy rebates are available to Enova customers in NSW. Take a look at the rebate types and eligibility criteria below to see if you are eligible for a rebate.

Low Income Household Rebate

 

Low Income Household Rebate is a rebate of $285 (exc GST) per year for eligible concession holders or $313.50 (exc GST) to eligible residents of on-supplied communities.

If you hold a DHS or DVA Pensioner Concession Card, DHS Health Care Card or DVA Gold Card then you may be eligible for this rebate. Simply contact us and we can arrange this rebate for you over the phone 02 5622 1700 or through email to info@enovaenergy.com.au.

The rebate will take effect on your account from the date you first apply to us. The rebate is calculated daily and will appear on your quarterly bill to offset the gross amount of the bill.

Life Support Rebate

 

Life Support Rebate assists in circumstances where a member of the household requires approved, energy-intensive life support equipment to be used at home. This rebate will vary depending on the type of equipment in use and a complete list of approved equipment and common brand names is available below

To apply for this rebate you will need to submit a completed application form to Enova which is signed by your doctor confirming the equipment is needed at your home.

Medical Energy Rebate

 

Medical Energy Rebate assists in circumstances where a member of the household is not able to self-regulate their body temperature when exposed to extremes (hot or cold) of environmental temperatures. The rebate provides $285 (exc GST) per year to eligible customers or $313.50 (exc GST) to eligible residents of on-supplied communities.

Family Energy Rebate

 

Family Energy Rebate is available to customers who are eligible for the Federal Government’s Family Tax Benefit A or B. The rebate provides a credit on your account of $180 (inc GST) each year or if you are also receiving the Low Income Household Rebate the credit is capped at $20 (inc GST)

Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) scheme

If you are experiencing ongoing difficulty paying your bills or have recently had a change in circumstances that is affecting your ability to pay your bills you should contact us as soon as possible to discuss how we can help. There are many options we can help you look at to manage your current payments and your future energy usage to ensure that you stay connected.

In some cases, customers experiencing financial hardship may be eligible for EAPA vouchers which can provide a credit towards an electricity bill.

The EAPA scheme is administered by Community Welfare Organisations (CWO) and these CWO will be able to conduct an EAPA assessment with you to determine your eligibility.

Government concessions and energy rebates in QLD

There are various government energy rebates available to Enova customers in QLD. Below is more information on the rebate types and eligibility criteria for each rebate and links to more information.

The QLD Electricity Rebate Scheme

This is a rebate of up to $340.85 (inc GST) per year for eligible residents in Queensland.

This rebate is normally available to people who have any of the below:

  • Queensland Seniors Card
  • Services Australia Pensioner Concession Card
  • Services Australia Health Care Card* (Electricity Rebate only) * This includes holders of a Low Income Health Care Card and Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card.
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (and receive the War Widow/er Pension or special rate TPI Pension)
  • Asylum seeker status—residents will need to provide their ImmiCard details (Electricity Rebate only).

To be eligible, you must be the electricity account holder and also live alone or share your principal place of residence with (only) any of the below:

  • your spouse
  • other people who hold a Services Australia Pensioner Concession Card or Queensland Seniors Card
  • other people wholly dependent on you
  • other people who receive an income support or families payment from Centrelink who do not pay rent
  • other people who receive an income support payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and who do not pay rent
  • other people who live with the cardholder to provide care and assistance, and who do not pay rent.

If you happen to live in a caravan park or multi-unit residential building (e.g. apartment), you must also show that your electricity is paid, based on metered consumption.

Life Support Rebate

The Queensland Government provides an electricity life support concession for eligible people who are seriously ill and use a home-based oxygen concentrator or kidney dialysis machine.

This concession is to contribute to the electricity cost of running these machines.

 

Important: If you or someone in your household depends on life support equipment, please contact us here at Enova Energy and register your household as a life support household.

 

You should register as a life support household even if you are not eligible for the Life Support Concession.

 

If you meet the eligibility requirements for the life support concession, you will need to complete the required Electricity Life Support Concession application form.

Medical Cooling & Heating Concessions

The Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme helps eligible Queensland residents with electricity costs for people who have a chronic medical condition, such as multiple sclerosis, autonomic system dysfunction, significant burns or a severe inflammatory skin condition,

This rebate currently provides $340.85 (inc GST) per year to eligible applicants (eligibility is reviewed every two years).

To be eligible you must

  • be a Queensland resident
  • have a qualifying medical condition and need cooling or heating to stop your symptoms become significantly worse.
  • live at your principal place of residence, which has an air-conditioning or heating unit.

The applicant and/or legal guardian of a minor with a qualifying medical condition must:

  • hold a current Pensioner Concession Card or a current Health Care Card and
  • be financially responsible for paying the electricity bill.

The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme

This scheme (HEEAS) provides emergency assistance of up to $720 once in a two-year period to assist eligible households experiencing short-term financial hardship resulting in difficulty paying their current electricity account.

 

To be eligible you must be responsible for paying the electricity bill (the bill does not need to be in your name) and generally meet one of the following:

  • hold a current concession card, or
  • have an income equal to or less than the Australian Government’s maximum income rate for part-age pensioners, contact Centrelink for details of the maximum income rate.
  • be part of your energy provider's hardship program or payment plan.
  • Full eligibility details, including the types of emergency situations you might get help for, are available from your energy provider's or participating financial counselling service.

COVID-19 household utility relief

Under the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 economic relief package, Queensland households may receive a one-off rebate to help offset household electricity and water costs.

To provide this assistance to households as quickly as possible, the household utility assistance payment will be credited to customers’ electricity bills.

This assistance if eligible, is in addition to any other energy rebate or concession for which customers may be eligible.
